don't take advantage of border reopening

Demand for certain goods will likely go up with the arrival of foreign travellers, now that international borders have reopened.

As such, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry warned traders not to take advantage of the situation to hike up the prices of their goods.

Meanwhile, the ministry says it will step up its enforcement and monitoring efforts during Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year.

It says it will focus on Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaars, supermarkets, and grocery stores.

Muslims throughout the country welcomed the first day of Ramadan yesterday, as Malaysians returned to Ramadan bazaars in several states.

Checks by Bernama found that on average, operators continued to maintain COVID-19 SOPs, while customers were seen wearing face masks as per the new norm.

Traders were also optimistic of better sales this year, following the easing of restrictions as we transition to endemicity.

Over 860,000 senior citizens have yet to receive their COVID-19 booster shot.

The Health Minister warned that currently, most COVID deaths involve seniors who did not take the booster.

As such, Khairy Jamaluddin reiterated his call for Malaysians to protect high-risk individuals, such as the elderly, by ensuring they get the jab.

So far, only some 15 million adults have received their booster, which accounts for around 67% of the adult population.
