No more first dose under PICKids

Children will have until May 15 to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine under the PICKids program.

The Health Ministry says it's because starting May 16, the government will no longer give out the Pfizer and Sinovac jabs, to avoid wastage due to a low uptake of the vaccine.

However, recipients can pay to take the Sinovac vaccine at private facilities.

Currently, only some 38% of kids aged 5 to 11 are partially immunised.

Meanwhile, close to 230,000 children have already been given two doses of the COVID jab.

Indonesian domestic helpers will be paid RM1,500

The HR Minister says Indonesian domestic helpers will be paid RM1,500 ringgit, in line with the new minimum wage, which comes into effect on May 1.

Datuk Seri M. Saravanan explained he initially could not agree with paying such helpers RM1,500, because the current minimum wage was set at RM1,200 when discussions began.

Meanwhile, the minister says various sectors will be temporarily exempted from implementing the RM1,500 minimum wage policy.

He says for now it will exempt informal sectors and those which have been hit hard by the economic impact of COVID-19.

This includes the tourism industry, hotels, farmers, and companies with fewer than five employees.

Daily COVID-19 cases climb back to 10k; 22 fatalities

Daily COVID-19 cases rose again to 10,052 yesterday, which is over a thousand infections more than the previous day’s tally.

Meanwhile, a further 22 deaths were recorded, including 6 brought in dead cases.

Most of the fatalities were detected in Selangor, Melaka, and Perak.

There were also nearly 16,000 recoveries.
