Alternative method not encouraged to treat HFMD

May 23, 2022

alternative method not encouraged to treat hfmd

The Health Ministry does not encourage alternative treatment methods to treat hand, foot, and mouth disease.

Its Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali says instead, parents are advised to seek professional help if their children show symptoms.

He also urged parents to ensure kids with HFMD drink enough water to avoid dehydration, however, they should be sent to hospital if they refuse to drink.

As of last week, over 31,000 HFMD cases were reported nationwide.

The government is looking into e-hailing service providers, following complaints of alleged fare hikes.

The Transport Ministry says it has instructed the service providers involved to give an explanation on the alleged increase in fares.

It assured that it will not compromise with any company found to be profiteering.

This comes after consumers complained that fares allegedly rose by up to 400% during peak hours.

Unsafe sex found to be main cause behind HIV/AIDS infections

alternative method not encouraged to treat hfmd

Unsafe sex has been found to be the main cause behind HIV and AIDs infection in the country.

The Health Ministry says there has been a significant shift in the infection pattern in the last decade, in which the use of needles is no longer the biggest contributor of cases.

It adds that as of December 2020, there were over 125,000 HIV and AIDs patients nationwide, most of them being men.

However, the actual figure is estimated to be much higher, as there are those who still refuse to get themselves registered for treatment due to the stigma surrounding the infection.
