Efforts underway to make secondary education compulsory

The Education Ministry says its already submitted a draft proposal to the AG’s Chambers to make secondary education compulsory.

This is part of wider plans to ensure that students stay in school until they complete their secondary education.

Currently, education is only compulsory up to Primary Six.

The Ministry says the dropout rate for primary school students is estimated to be at 0.07 percent as of last June, while it was 0.99 percent for secondary school students.

KTM Komuter’s recent delays are only temporary.

The Transport Minister admits that there are service problems due to construction work for the Klang Valley Double Tracking project.

However, the disruptions should be resolved once the project is completed.

More flood evacuation centers in Batu Pahat, Johor have been closed as conditions continued to improve.

The National Disaster Management Agency says the number of evacuees is down by more than half to 2,500-plus as of this morning.

The Works Ministry has confirmed that four Klang Valley highways as well as the Penang Bridge will start accepting credit and debit cards for toll payments from September.

If successful, the open payment system will be expanded to other highways.
