Heatwave claims two lives

Two lives have been lost due to the current hot and dry spell.

Reports say an 11-year-old boy in Bachok and a toddler in Kota Bharu passed away due to heatstroke, in two separate incidents in Kelantan this past week.

The state had been under a Met Department heat alert over the past few days.

Meanwhile, three areas in Kedah, and one each in Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak have been placed under the latest level one heat alert…with expected temperatures of between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.

The Health Ministry continues to encourage people to wear face masks in public areas, although no new guidelines have been issued.

It says Covid cases have been decreasing despite the emergence of new subvariants, with existing SOP’s to remain for now.

It adds that same applies to school students, who are encouraged, but not required, to wear face masks when they return to school next week.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry says discussions are underway to finalize the health SOP’s for schools, which will be announced soon.

The Federal Court Chief Registrar’s Office has released CCTV footage of the bail counter at the KL Court Complex, to dispel accusations that the counter had been closed early last week, resulting in six accused having to spend the long weekend in prison.

And, iconic US talk show host Jerry Springer has passed away at the age of 79 after a brief illness.
