No Rush To Raise Healthcare Charges

The Health Ministry will not rush into raising prices at public healthcare facilities.
Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa says any changes to the fee structure will not be done immediately or arbitrarily, so as not to adversely affect the low-income group.
This, after the ministry said it would study the option of reviewing the fee structure for public hospitals and clinics, in accordance to the patient’s budget.

Separately, the Health Ministry has reported a three-fold increase in mental health cases among those aged 16 and above between 1996 and 2015.
Its Minister is also not ruling out the possibility that cases rose even higher, as a result of the Covid pandemic.

The Education Ministry has clarified that a total of nearly 30 thousand candidates who were registered for last year’s SPM, did not sit for the exam.
This includes private candidates who were only registered to take one or two subjects.
It says the earlier reported figure of 15 thousand, was only for those who were registered to take six subjects.

The Works Ministry says the open payment system for 12 highways will be implemented starting September.
Once in place, it will allow motorists to use their debit and credit cards for toll payments.
