Mule Account Holders Must Be Prepared for Consequences
Aug 15, 2024
People, including students, should prepare for the consequences, if they allow their bank accounts to be used by scammers.
Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crimes chief said this, after his department detected over 200 thousand mule account holders nationwide.
Some of them are students, who willingly sell their bank accounts and ATM cards to scammers for between RM500 to RM1,000.
Recently, the govt tabled proposed amendments to increase the penalties for mule account holders.
Those convicted will face a maximum penalty of up to seven years in jail, and a fine of between RM10,000 and RM100,000.
