Oct 04, 2024

over four thousand flood hotspots identified

More than four thousand flood hotspots have been identified nationwide, as part of preparations for the Northeast Monsoon.

The DPM says continuous monitoring will be conducted from now on…involving various agencies like the Drainage and Irrigation Department, the National Disaster Management Agency and the Met Department.

The preparation also involves placing warning sirens and water pumps at the high-risk localities.

The number of flood evacuees in Selangor has risen past 1,200, with the victims housed at seven evacuation centers in Kuala Selangor, Shah Alam and Gombak.

According to the Social Welfare Department’s portal the flood situation in Kedah has worsened again, with some 250 people housed at relief shelters there.

There are also around 130 evacuees in Perak and a total of 30-plus in Penang and Pahang combined.

MyDigital ID has issued an apology for recent difficulties with registration.

It says preliminary investigations have found multiple factors behind the problem…including possible user-related issues such as submitting blurry photos.

This, after the platform saw a surge in registrations, following the earlier announcement that users would need a MyDigital ID profile, in order to log on to the MyJPJ app after October 10th.

However, the Transport Ministry subsequently reversed the decision…saying users can now continue using the JPJ app without MyDigital ID.

The new student orientation at higher learning institutions is here to stay.

The Higher Education Ministry says there are no plans to do away with it, as the program is still relevant to help students get used to campus life and being away from their families.

It adds that there may be isolated issues at one or two locations…but this does not mean that the entire program should be scrapped.
