No More Coal Power Plants

Oct 09, 2024

no more coal power plants

Malaysia has outlined plans to move away from the use of fossil fuels to generate electricity, and transition to renewable energy.

The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry says under this initiative, no new coal-fired power plants will be built, while all existing ones will be phased out.

It also says that Malaysia will gradually step up the use of renewable energy for electricity generation, from 28% currently.

The target is for renewable energy to account for 40% of the national electricity mix by 2035, and 70% by 2050.

The subsidy for chicken eggs MAY be lifted AFTER supplies stabilise.

The Agriculture and Food Security Minister says any savings from such a subsidy cut could be redirected to other sectors in the agro-food industry that need it more.

Meanwhile FOMCA says any possible removal of the egg subsidy must be implemented carefully.

It’s to make sure that it does not lead to any major price hikes that will burden consumers.
