Monsoon Floods Could Be Worse Than 2014

Nov 28, 2024

monsoon floods could be worse than 2014

This year’s monsoon floods COULD be more severe than the deluge that occurred in 2014.

DPM Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi says this is based on projections from MetMalaysia’s early warning system.

He adds that the current situation could worsen next week, as monsoon rains will coincide with high tide.

However, Zahid says the government has made the necessary preparations to deal with monsoon floods.

This includes making sure that over 8,000 temporary shelters are ready to be activated at any time.

As at 6pm, the number of flood evacuees rose to 57,000 across 5 states

Kelantan reported 47,000 evacuees while another 9,000 are displaced in Terengganu.

Another 1,300 people are at flood shelters in Kedah, Perlis and Perak.

Meanwhile, Bomba Director General Datuk Nor Hisham Mohamad told Astro Awani that people should not take unnecessary risks by driving on flooded roads.

He also advised against wading through flood waters because of risks including electric shock.
