Bersih: Consult Stakeholders Before Revising Peaceful Assembly Act
Feb 13, 2025

Bersih has called on the government to consult with stakeholders, before tabling proposed amendments to the Peaceful Assembly Act.
The Electoral reform group says it's to ensure that the amendments reflect the “needs and wants” of the people, and that they are on par with international standards.
Earlier today, the PM said that the law will be amended, to remove the requirement for assembly organizers to get permission from property owners beforehand.

Meanwhile, the government has defended its decision to retain the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act, or SOSMA.
The PM says Malaysia is not immune to terrorist threats, including attacks targeting the police.
However, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that SOSMA must be implemented properly, and it cannot be abused like the now-repealed ISA.
