The Foreign Ministry is advising all Malaysians to postpone non-essential travel to southern Thailand.

This, following a bomb explosion and shooting in Narathiwat that killed at least two Thai security personnel and injured several other people.

Authorities had earlier confirmed that no Malaysians were injured in the incident.

In a related development, the Education Ministry says Malaysian students with families in South Thailand must remain at their school hostels or relatives' homes for now.

They will not be allowed to return home or cross back to Thailand for the time being following the attack.

The Education Ministry has reiterated that all types of food that pose a health risk to students are banned from being sold in schools.

This includes candies that look like vapes or cigarettes.

It comes amid concerns raised by the Consumers Association of Penang over the increasing availability of vape and syringe shaped candies in the local market.

The association warned that such sweets could contribute to the normalization of smoking habits among children.

Over 246 thousand undocumented migrants voluntarily surrendered to the Immigration Department to return to their home countries, under the Migrant Repatriation Program.  

The Department told Utusan...the bulk of these migrants were from Indonesia, Bangladesh and India. 

It adds that as of December last year, the number of active foreign workers in the country stands at 2.3 million.
