M'sia Will Not Slip Into Recession Over Tariffs

Apr 07, 2025

m'sia will not slip into recession over tariffs

Malaysia is not expected to slip into a recession, following America’s new tariff policy.

The Prime Minister says we will inevitably face challenges, but our economic fundamentals are strong enough to help us weather the storm.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim adds that the government also has no plans for retaliatory measures against America’s imposition of a 24%.

It will probably be another ten days before authorities can start their technical investigation into the Putra Heights pipeline fire.

Selangor police say the ground of the site is still highly unstable due to the initial explosion and the subsequent heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, cops have denied social media rumours that there had been a fatality in last week’s incident…adding that no such reports have been received so far.

-

In a related development, tertiary students affected by the Putra Heights fire have been given permission to attend classes online.

The Higher Education Ministry says this applies to students from public universities, polytechnics and community colleges.

-

Five Malaysian nationals have been involved in a tour bus collision in western Tokyo, although the Foreign Ministry confirms all of them suffered only minor injuries.

-

And, the earthquake death toll in Myanmar has risen to nearly 3,500…with a further 200-plus still unaccounted for.
