kpm announces teacher incentives

The Education Ministry has announced several incentives for educators in conjunction with Teachers Day today.  

Fadhlina Sidek says among others, teachers can apply for transfers after two years of service without any conditions, compared to three years currently.  

She adds that over 1,400 teaching assistants will be sent to selected schools, while some teachers and officials will be offered short-term training courses overseas.  

The minister also announced discounts for the purchase of flight tickets and books.

Meanwhile, the NUTP says teachers facing mental health issues should not be ashamed to seek help.  

The union's secretary general Fauzi Singon told us that there are many channels within the Education Ministry for them to seek counselling

On average, 10,000 teachers take early retirement every year, including for mental health reasons due to heavy workloads.

So far, 15 people have been called in for questioning over the fatal crash that killed 9 FRU personnel in Teluk Intan, Perak.  

This includes the owner of the lorry company involved in the accident.  

Cops also called for anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward to help with investigations.  

This, as the the lorry driver involved in the accident pleaded not guilty on 9 counts of causing death by reckless driving.  

 

If convicted, he could face between 5 to 10 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to RM50,000.  

Meanwhile, police have urged witnesses who have dashcam footage of the crash to come forward to help with ongoing investigations.
