Astro Radio News Bags Two MPI-Petronas Journalism Awards

Astro Radio News (ARN) won two prestigious awards at the 2025 Malaysian Journalists Night and the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) – Petronas Journalism Awards.  

ARN dominated the Best Radio Report category by taking home two of the top three prizes.

ARN senior journalist Nicholas John emerged as the Silver winner, earning a cash prize of RM 3,000 and a certificate for his special report titled “The 20th Anniversary of The Indian Ocean Tsunami”.  

The report focused on two Malaysian tsunami survivors and how the catastrophe left a lasting mark on their lives, as well as how Malaysia then developed its own world-class tsunami alert system.

ARN also received the Bronze award through Muhammad Najib Md Nazri, who took home a cash prize of RM 2,000 and a certificate.

Najib, a junior member of the radio newsroom impressed the judges with his special podcast titled “Dilema Ego Lelaki: Sampai Bila Nak Abaikan Kesihatan?”, which discusses the male ego dilemma on health issues.

Commenting on ARN’s strong showing this year, News & Traffic Operations Manager Moganadas Muniandy described it as the result of the winners’ tireless efforts, consistent commitment and team spirit.

He adds, this success proves that ARN has consistently produced talented journalists who can stand as tall as their contemporaries.

Meanwhile, Astro Radio News & Traffic Head, Chan Sue Ching was overwhelmed by the success and hopes it will motivate the ARN team to continue producing high-calibre stories and aim higher for next year’s edition of the awards.
