Iran Mulls Closing The Straits of Hormuz

The parliament of Iran has voted in support of closing off the vital Straits of Hormuz, in retaliation against US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The move could have a major impact on the global economy…since 20 percent of the world’s oil shipments pass through the waterway.
Any final decision on the closure, however, rests with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

A group of 24 Malaysian nationals and their dependents have arrived safely back home after being evacuated from Iran.
At least 12 other Malaysians are still there…including students and Malaysians married to Iranian nationals.
Wisma Putra says its closely monitoring the 12…and will provide assistance if they opt to return.

The Communications Minister says the implementation of the new electricity tariff schedule, which starts next month, is a clear reflection of the government’s major reforms, especially for the energy sector.
He also pointed out how 85 percent of domestic consumers should enjoy the same, or even lower electricity rates…if their monthly usage does not exceed 1,000 kilowatt hours.
