pm launches national month, jalur gemilang campaigns

The Prime Minister has officially launched this year’s National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign.

The event in Johor this morning marks the start of nationwide events and celebrations, in the leadup to next month’s Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day in September.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also flagged off the Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Expedition Convoy…which will travel across the country carrying a message of unity and patriotism.

KL police say yesterday’s rally in the capital ended peacefully…with no reports received so far about any untoward incident.

However, the KL police chief says a post-mortem of the event will be carried out…to see if further action needs to be taken.

A call to the 997 hotline under the National Scam Response Center will be treated as a police report, eliminating the need for victims to lodge a separate report at a police station.

The Communications Ministry says the hotline will also be operated 24-hours a day starting September, amid the rising trend of online scams.

The Youth and Sports Minister is proposing introducing combat sports in schools, as one of the ways to address the issue of bullying among students.

She says under the right guidance, sports like martial arts can help students channel their energy in a more positive manner.

Elsewhere, Israel says its prepared to open up humanitarian corridors for UN convoys to transport urgently-needed food into Gaza.

This follows weeks of pressure from the international community to end the worsening hunger crisis among displaced Palestinians.

Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to hold ceasefire talks to end days of cross-border violence.

So far more than 30 people have been killed, while over a hundred thousand others have been evacuated, as a result of the attacks between the two countries’ militaries.
