Zara Qairina Bullying Suspects Facing Charges

Aug 18, 2025

zara qairina bullying suspects facing charges

Several people will face legal consequences over Zara Qairina's death.

This, after prosecutors confirmed that several individuals will be charged in court for bullying the 13-year-old at a religious school in Sabah.

The Attorney General told BH that charges will be filed against 5 underaged youths.

They will be taken to the Kota Kinabalu Juvenile Court on Wednesday.

This, as Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution told the Dewan Rakyat that police investigations uncovered evidence of bullying, sexual harassment and neglect in Zara's case...

Meanwhile, the govt urged people to stop exploiting tragedies such as Zara's death for their own personal or political gain.

Datuk Seri Saifuddin gave the example of social media posts that implicated high-profile individuals, as well as an online claim that Zara was stuffed inside a washing machine – all of which were confirmed to be false...

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also weighed in on the matter, saying that the spreading of such toxic posts can cause serious harm to society.

He singled out the social media user who recently claimed to be a surgeon involved in Zara’s post-mortem...

The Health Ministry has since confirmed that the individual was NOT a doctor, and was never involved in any autopsy.

Zara's case and several other high-profile bullying incidents has prompted His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia to issue a statement on the matter.

His Majesty decreed that the government adopt a comprehensive campaign to combat all forms of bullying, starting from primary school level.

The King says bullying needs to be addressed at an early stage, because it can lead to a generation that lacks respect and compassion.

His Majesty also pointed out that bullying harms a victim's mental and emotional wellbeing, and this can lead to tragic outcomes.
