Prosecution of Zara's Alleged Bullies Will Go Ahead

Aug 19, 2025

prosecution of zara's alleged bullies will go ahead

Prosecutors will proceed with plans to charge 5 minors tomorrow, for allegedly bullying 13-year-old Zara Qairina.

This was confirmed by the Attorney General, after lawyers representing Zara's mother asked for a delay.

The lawyers argued that a postponement would allow authorities to file heavier charges, under the so-called Esha Clause for bullying that leads to the victim's death.

The penalty for that charge is a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine.

Prosecutors previously said that the 5 would be charged for harassment, which only carries a one-year sentence and a fine.

Meanwhile, Suhakam has reminded people NOT to publish any pictures or information that can identify the 5 suspects.

This is because the suspects are still minors under the age of 18, meaning they are covered under the provision of the Child Act that protects the identities of children involved in legal proceedings.

Also, the MCMC has found the social media user who falsely claimed to be a pathologist that was involved in Zara's post-mortem.

The commission has already recorded his statement, and the investigation is ongoing.

Reports said the girls suffered abrasions and swelling on their feet after being forced to do squats and perform duck walks for arriving late at their dormitory.

81 contingents will take part in this year's National Day 2025 parade in Putrajaya on the 31st of August.

The Information Department says it will involve over 14,000 participants.

It also assured that authorities will enhance transport facilities there, to make it easier for people to catch the parade.

Among other things, 100 shuttle buses will be provided to transport people from designated parking areas around Putrajaya.

The theme for this year's National Day celebration is Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni.

And the Federal Territories Minister has reminded motorists who want to fly the Jalur Gemilang on their vehicles to make sure they are fastened properly.

It's to reduce any safety risks to other road users.
