Those looking to enter the trainee teacher programme will have to get through it on their own buck from next year.

The Education Ministry says it will stop ALLOWANCES for trainee teachers from next June.

This means students will no longer get living expenses and travel allowances.

However, it told The Star it will still fund the Undergraduate Degree in Education.

There are no changes to the foundation course allowance either.
