South Korea ensures safety at next year's Olympic Games

Sep 28, 2017

South Korea is taking extra measures to try to ensure the safety of next year's Winter Olympic Games, amid the rising tensions with North Korea.

Among other things, South Korea's Defence Ministry will deploy double the number of armed forces personnel.

A new Special Weapons and Tactics team has been set up as well, to check venues for bombs, and to protect the athletes and visitors.

Officials are also looking for a private cyber security company to guard against a hacking attack from the North.

The Games will take place in Pyeongchang, which is just 80 kilometers away from the heavily fortified border with North Korea.
