We're now on high alert for flood season!

14 thousand firefighters are now on standy, ahead of the upcoming flood season. 

The Fire and Rescue Department says this includes 540 members of its Water Rescue Unit. 

Speaking of which, a school in Limbang, Sarawak was forced to close today, after heavy rain this morning caused a metre-high flash flood. 

Over in the Peninsular, more than a thousand people are currently displaced by floods, half of them in Johor.

Malaysian linked to 9/11 attacks to be released next month

A Malaysian militant linked to the Sept 11th terrorist attacks in the US will be released from custody next month. 

The IGP says police will not stop the release of Yazid Sufaat, as he has served his sentence. 

Yazid, a biochemist, has spent two years at the Simpang Renggam Prison in Johor, under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Stats on suicidal thoughts among teens rise

More teenagers have reported experiencing suicidal thoughts. 

The Health Ministry says based on the latest National Health and Morbidity survey, prevalence of suicidal thoughts among teens rose from nearly 8% in 2012, to 10% in 2017.

To help deal with this, screening services and treatment for mental health issues are provided in 60 government hospitals, and over a thousand health clinics nationwide.
