Australia wants Lynas conditions revoked

Nov 05, 2019

Australia has requested for Malaysia to revoke conditions imposed on the Lynas rare earth processing plant.

The Prime Minister said this was conveyed by the Australian Prime Minister in their meeting at the 35th Asean Summit on the weekend.

Tun M says the government will take three months to decide.

In August, the government renewed the Australian company's operating licence for six months, but imposed three conditions, including processing its radioactive residue out of Malaysia.

Tun M explains why Goldman Sachs 1MDB compensation offer rejected

At the end of the Asean Summit yesterday, Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad reiterated why Malaysia rejected a compensation offer from Goldman Sachs over the 1MDB scandal:

"They cost us to lose about 7 billion US dollars. Of course, they may not be able to pay that amount, they might not want to pay that amount, but their offer is too low."

The American investment bank had reportedly offered Malaysia less than 2 billion dollars in compensation.
