Parents with children in vernacular schools will be given 2 weeks to decide if they want Jawi calligraphy introducated in their schools when the new terms opens.

The Education Ministry says parents will indicate their wishes on forms that will be distributed by the schools' parent-teacher associations.

It adds that if the majority of parents of children in a particular school agree to the move, then the teaching of Jawi will start for those in Year 4 in stages next year.

The Ministry stressed that even if parents agreed to the move, students will not have to sit for any test or exam on the topic.

Police are investigating an incident where several motorcyclists chased a car on a congested road in KL, after they believed the driver was a robber who pushed a disabled person out of his car.

The suspect has been arrested and police are trying to piece together the truth behind why the disabled person was pushed out of the car.

The Transport Ministry is urging taxi drivers to transform and adopt the latest technology in providing services, to enable them to compete with e-hailing service providers.

It says only about 20% out of 43,000 taxi drivers nationwide use e-hailing apps while the rest still rely on conventional ways of getting passengers.
