Jan 29, 2020
A 34-year-old suspect in Bangi has been detained by authorities, for allegedly spreading fake news about the Wuhan coronavirus.
This, after the police and Communications and Multimedia Commission earlier warned that harsh penalties await those who share unverified reports about the virus.
Meanwhile, Malaysia recorded three more confirmed cases of the Wuhan coronavirus.
It brings the total number of infections here to seven, all involving Chinese nationals.
Singapore also confirmed its seventh case, while Thailand saw the number of infections rise to 14.
The WHO will also be sending in a special team of international experts to China as soon as possible, to get a better understanding of the virus, and to guide the global response.
