Border control not a huge priority for now

May 14, 2020

Re-opening the country’s borders remains a low priority at the moment.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says we need to strengthen controls to check on local coronavirus transmissions, and review the global situation first, before we can even think of opening up our borders again.

He also warned that the government could revert back to the stricter MCO, if there’s an exponential surge in new Covid-19 cases.

Conversely, more economic sectors could be opened up under the CMCO, if the number of new cases remains low.

Economic recovery plan in the works

The government will be implementing a short and medium-term economic recovery plan to rejuvenate the country’s economy, including boosting consumer spending, and creating jobs, while abiding by new health and safety guidelines.

In a related development, the Transport Ministry is working on a solution to the issue of public transport fare hikes, as a result of fewer passengers being allowed on, due to social distancing measures.
