Government to announce school reopening guidelines

Jun 03, 2020

Teachers cannot be forced to go back to their schools while the Conditional Movement Control Order is still in effect.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says, the Education Ministry has never issued such a directive, and if there were cases of teachers returning to school, it was voluntary.

He said, "Tidak ada setakat hari ini. tapi kalau guru tu secara sukarela nak pergi sekolah nak menolong guru besar dan sebagainya, itu bukan arahan daripada Kementerian Pendidikan".

Meanwhile, the government has prepared comprehensive guidelines for the reopening of schools.

Health Director General, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says among others, students will not be able to eat at their canteens.

The guidelines will be released tomorrow.

Foreigners make up most of new COVID-19 cases

The Health Ministry says 93 new COVID-19 cases were reported today, and the vast majority of them involved foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, 61 patients were discharged from hospital, meaning that 81 percent of all cases have now fully recovered.

The death toll remains unchanged at 115.

MTUC calls for loan moratorium to be extended for another 6 months

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress has urged the government to extend the current moratorium on loan repayments by another six months.

It says this will help thousands of workers who have either lost their jobs, or were forced to take massive pay cuts amid the Movement Control Order.
