Liverpool Aim To Open Title Defence With A Bang

Aug 15, 2025

liverpool aim to open title defence with a bang

Liverpool's Cody Gakpo is confident his team will hit the ground running in tomorrow's Premier League season opener against Bournemouth.

The forward says is optimistic about their upcoming campaign after a largely positive pre-season (part from their Community Shield defeat).

He adds that their new signings have already adapted well to the team.

They'll be going up against a Bournemouth side who have not won their last four pre-season friendlies.

Liverpool's Joe Gomez could start on the bench after coming back from injury but Ryan Gravenberch is suspended.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have spent £250 million pounds so far this summer, to sign Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.

This makes them the biggest-spending EPL club so far, ahead of Chelsea and Man United.

And Liverpool's spending spree is not over yet, as they could still sign Newcastle's Alexander Isak, as well as a new defender.

Selangor FC will face a challenging campaign for this season's AFC Champions League Two.

They've been drawn in the same group as last season's finalists Lion City Sailors of Singapore, as well as Indonesia's Persib Bandung, and Thai club Bangkok United.
