Germany Cruise Into Knockout Round

Jun 20, 2024

germany cruise into knockout round

Hosts Germany have advanced to the Euro 2024 knockout stage with a game to spare, after beating Hungary 2-0.

Switzerland and Scotland both kept their hopes of advancing alive, after playing out a 1-1 draw.

While Croatia are in danger of elimination…with their 2-2 draw against Albania leaving the former World Cup finalists without a win so far.

-

Elsewhere at the Euros…France coach Didier Deschamps says Kylian Mbappe is recovering well from his broken nose.

He adds that the striker will need surgery to fix the problem…but the operation will only be done after they’re finished with the tournament.

-

It will be business as usual for Mohd Azeem Fahmi…as he heads to this weekend’s Kazakhstan Athletics Open.

The national sprint king has his Olympic hopes hanging in the balance, but says he will be sticking to his normal game plan, to not put too much pressure on himself.

Based on the current rankings…Azeem is one position away from the final qualification spot, and needs to win the 100m event in Kazakhstan, to stand a chance of making the cut for Paris.

-

And, Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki – all former tennis world number one’s – are among those who’ve been handed wildcard entries into the main draw of next month’s Wimbledon Championship.
