No Taxpayer Money for Commonwealth Games

Mar 21, 2024

no taxpayer money for commonwealth games

The government will ensure that taxpayer money is not used, IF it accepts the offer to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh told the Dewan Rakyat, measures will be taken to ensure that spending on the sports event will NOT exceed the £100 million grant offered by the Commonwealth Games Federation.

"If public funds are needed, the best option may be to decide not to host the Games", she said.

The Cabinet will discuss the proposal tomorrow.

Manchester United are working on a deal for Jadon Sancho to make a permanent move to Borussia Dortmund.

According to reports, United could be open for a swap deal involving Dortmund player Donyell Malen.

Sancho joined the German club on loan in January after falling out with United boss Erik ten Hag.

Man United's Victor Lindeloff has dismissed rumours linking him with a possible move to Saudi Arabia.

He says the time's not right for such a move, because he believes he still has a lot to offer in Europe.

And Barcelona's sporting director says the club is hopeful that Xavi will do a u-turn on his decision to leave in the summer.

Barca have been in fine form after Xavi announced the decision, winning 7 of their 10 matches in all competitions.
