Zii Jia's All England win sparks Olympic hopes

Lee Zii Jia’s success at the All England Championships over the weekend has raised hopes of him doing well at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican admits that while it is too soon for us to pin our gold medal hopes on the shuttler…he is optimistic Zii Jia can pull off a few surprises in Tokyo.

He says what’s important now is for the player to stay fit and continue performing consistently.

Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso has reportedly been offered the job as manager of Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.

However, the World Cup winner has not yet decided whether to accept the offer.

Alonso is currently the manager of Real Sociedad’s “B” team.

Man City are reportedly considering Southampton striker Danny Ings as a potential replacement for Sergio Aguero.

The Premier League leaders had earlier been linked with the likes of Erling Haaland but are said to have been turned off by Borussia Dortmund’s high asking price.

However, Ings – who scored 22 league goals last season - is seen as the more affordable option, especially if he’s allowed to leave the Saints for free this summer.
