Sources say new coach Ronald Koeman is looking to make the French striker the central figure in his team amid the imminent departure of club icon Lionel Messi.
The World Cup winner joined Barca last season but had an underwhelming first campaign - scoring 15 goals in 48 appearances.
Koeman, however, now plans to use Griezmann in a freer position, similiar to the one he excelled in while at Atletico Madrid.

He is now under two-week isolation, and will miss the French national team's upcoming Nations League matches against Sweden and Croatia.
However, if he recovers in time, Pogba could be available for United's Premiership opener against Crystal Palace on September 19th.
Hamilton rules out boycott

Defending F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has ruled out boycotting this weekend's Belgian GP in protest against the shooting of an African-American man by police in the US.
Hamilton - who's been a strong advocate of the Black Lives Matter movement - says he does not see how missing the race in Europe would have a positive effect in America.
His statement comes after a number of US-based sports events were postponed or boycotted, in the wake of the latest shooting.
