Lionel Messi is the first player among the top five European leagues, to score 30 goals this season.

This, after he netted the winner in Barcelona's 1-nil win over Valladolid, that saw the Catalan side extend their lead to 7 points at the summit of La Liga.

Messi has also now scored 30 goals or more for Barca in all competitions, in each of the past 11 seasons.

Man City advance in the FA Cup

Manchester City have powered into the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, thanks to a 4-1 win over Newport County.

They join Brighton, Millwall and Watford in advancing into the last eight.

It also means City are still in the running for the quadruple this season - with the club also fighting for the Premier League, League Cup and Champions League titles.

It's Fergie-time again...

Sir Alex Ferguson is set for a brief return to management with Manchester United.

The 77-year-old will lead the Red Devils in a charity match against Bayern Munich in May, to mark the 20th anniversary of the two sides meeting in the Champions League final.

United's current interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - who scored the winning goal against Bayern in 1999 - is also expected to be in the team for the charity match.
