UEFA has no plans to amend qualification for Champions League

May 12, 2020

UEFA insists it’s not thinking about changing qualification for the Champions League, as football around the world remains suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In an official statement, it says it will continue monitoring the situation and any potential impact on the format of qualifying rounds for next year's club competitions.

The first qualifying match of next season's Champions League was scheduled for June 23rd, but it will be pushed back until after UEFA plans for THIS year's final to take place in Turkey.

Meanwhile, the 2020/21 domestic season will be expected to finish mid-May as per normal next year.

ATP optimistic about tennis' return

The ATP Tour is confident that professional tennis will make its return this year, even though the coronavirus pandemic threatens to wipe the sport completely from the 2020 calendar.

It says it would be unwise to call it quits now, as officials hope to resume play at least behind closed doors among other options.

The Tour is working on a time frame of six to eight weeks to determine the fate of upcoming tournaments.

As it stands, Wimbledon has been cancelled and the French Open postponed from its usual May dates to September, while the status of the US Open, scheduled to take place in late August, remains unclear.

British F1 GP in doubt

The British Grand Prix is reportedly under threat, because of a financial issue between Formula 1 and the Silverstone circuit.

Officials have yet to comment, but it’s understood Hockenheim, Germany is the top choice to replace Silverstone if they can’t reach an agreement.
