Man City are Premier League champions!
May 23, 2022
Manchester City are Premier League champions, after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Aston Villa in their final game of the season at the Etihad.
City needed to win to clinch the title, but found themselves two goals down after 70 minutes.
They then staged a stunning late comeback, with Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri drawing them level, before Gundogan struck again with the winner, nine minutes from time.
The victory ensures that City are crowned champions for the fourth time in five seasons.
They finished just a point ahead of second-placed Liverpool, who recorded a 3-1 win over Wolves.
Meanwhile, Tottenham thrashed Norwich 5-0, to finish in fourth place.
Man United managed to get the final Europa League spot by finishing sixth, despite their 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
While Burnley lost 2-1 to Newcastle, joining Watford and Norwich as this season’s relegated teams.
Liverpool’s Mo Salah and Tottenham’s Son Heung Min are the joint-winners of the Premier League Golden Boot award as the season’s top scorers.
Both finished their respective campaigns with 23 league goals.
This is the third time that Salah has won the award, while Son is the first Asian player to be given the honour.
Meanwhile Man City keeper Ederson and Liverpool’s Alisson will share the Golden Glove award...after finishing the season with 20 clean sheets each.
The Malaysian contingent has ended its campaign at the Hanoi SEA Games with 39 gold medals.
