EPL spending hits £1b again

Aug 09, 2019

Spending by English Premier League clubs broke the 1 billion pound barrier for a 4th straight year, during the summer.

Financial experts from Deloitte said that just over 1.41 billion pounds during the just-ended transfer window.

That's 20 million pounds shy of the all-time spending record set in 2017.

Among notable signings, Man United spent 80 million pounds to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester, making him the world's most expensive defender.

Meanwhile Arsenal were the biggest spenders shelling out over 150 million pounds on players like Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney and David Luiz.
--

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has questioned Arsenal's deal to sign centre-back David Luiz from the Blues.

Johnson says Luiz while Luiz a good player, he also needs someone to babysit him on the pitch, because he's prone to making mistakes.
--

Andy Murray says he'll decide today, if he'll play in the singles event at next week's Cincinnati tennis Open.

The former World No. 1 has been playing in doubles tournaments, as he slowly makes his comeback from hip surgery.
