Nemanja Vidic Gets Candid About Solskjaer

Mar 28, 2019

Nemanja Vidic has a reputation as one of the Premier League's most feared and hardest-tackling defenders.

Opposition players remember him for his crunching challenges and no-nonsense approach to the game over the course of his Man United career.

But when asked about one of his most vivid memories from his spell at Old Trafford, the Serbian revealed it was the time he almost took out his own teammate, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"I thought I did some serious damage"

Vidic recalled that they didn't spend that much time on the pitch due to Solskjaer's injury layoffs...so it was a big deal when they actually got to play together.

"I remember when he came back from his injury, I went in with a tackle in training. It was raining...and I slid in with a challenge. I didn't really hit him, I just clipped him. But he felt it and ended up in the medical room afterwards"

The defender added: "The tackle left me really upset and sad, because I knew how long he had been out injured for. Good thing it ended up being nothing serious. It was a huge relief for me!"

According to Vidic, the incident left a lasting impression on Solskjaer as well.

"I met him a few weeks ago at Carrington (United's training complex). I asked him - 'Do you remember that day?'

Solskjaer's response - "Of course I remember that day!"

"Give him the job"

Vidic is one of several from United's former contingent who feel that Solskjaer deserves the Man United manager's job full time.

In recent weeks, Andy Cole and Gary Neville also emerged as two of the most vocal supporters of the ex striker.

Since taking over from Jose Mourinho as interim boss, Solskjaer has helped the club to 10 wins from 13 Premier League games.

He's also guided the Red Devils to the Champions League quarterfinals, while restoring the fast-flowing attacking style of play that United have long been famous for.

Several reports claim Solskjaer could be given the job before the end of the week - others claim he'll only be confirmed at the end of the season, if at all.
