Verstappen, however, remains cautious about his chances moving forward.

"I think our car seems to work quite well on softer compounds...especially looking after tyres in the race. But there won't be that many races where we will be running soft tyres. So I would'nt say we are back in the fight...I think we still have to be realistic."

The result moves Verstappen up to second in the championship standings, 30 points behind leader Hamilton.

It has not been revealed whether the two - who are currently in isolation -  are players or staff members.

The remainder of the Champions League campaign is being played as a single-leg, 'final-eight' tournament behind closed doors in Portugal.
