After an amazing 2019 from playing at Good Vibes Festival 2019, sharing the stage with the likes of Daniel Caeser, Mura Masa and Yuna, to supporting Phum Viphurit on the KL leg of his Asia Tour, Urbanscapes 2019 alongside boypablo & Sunset Rollercoaster, lost spaces is ready to release their sophomore record to the world.

The 4-track EP includes their singles “inter.vision”, & “windows.95” and a collection of brand new tracks. This marks yet another milestone for the band, having released their 14-track debut album, “no-vacancy” in August of 2019.

Among the people who worked on the EP digital-paranoia include producers Kuszanagi & The Chief from Breaking Music. Pivoting from themes on superficial love to heavier themes of mental health, frontman & lost spaces brainchild Sam Lopez talks about the process of expanding the depth of the lost spaces catalogue.

“With this record, I was really trying to dig deeper into my mental space to address my struggles, feelings of inadequacy & my unhealthy self-image,” explains Sam. “I began to notice that my interaction with the digital world made my mental space clogged up most of the time where I began to see myself as less than who I really was.”

Kuszanagi, the lead producer of the project (who also plays keys for lost spaces) said that there was a different approach to the music and a different goal to accomplish compared to the debut album, no-vacancy.

“Sam came in to start this project with the goal of expanding our sound palate & challenging our idea of what a lost spaces record sounds like, so we decided to be more experimental with our sounds & production choices,” said Kuszanagi about the production approach.

“I wanted to push the boundaries of what electronic music would  sound like with band-styled principles while exploring a darker soundscape & I think we did accomplish that,” added Sam on the process.

About lost spaces

lost spaces is a musical project started by Sam Lopez. He started lost spaces as a safe place where he could get away and sort the mess of his own mind. There, he would be isolated with his creativity to write and create. Influenced by the likes of HalfNoise, Seoul, and Toro Y Moi. This solo project is brought to life on stage by his band which he started with his cousin and bassist Imran Marshall, keyboard player & producer Kuszanagi, drummer Kyle and guitarist Shien.

2019 was their biggest year yet when they opened for Korean indie rock band HYUKOH혁오 at KL Live and Phum Viphurit at The Bee while playing Good Vibes Festival 2019 alongside the likes of Daniel Caeser, Mura Masa, 6LACK and Dean. They were featured in 2019’s edition of Urbanscapes alongside the likes of boy pablo, Glass Animals, The Drums & The Marias.

What began as an individual’s journey in finding his own place in this world, is now a space Sam wants to create for everyone from all walks of life to be drawn to and lose themselves in. Combining quirky sounds with lush synths, fuzzed guitars and syncopated drum beats, lost spaces aims to make music for people to vibe, groove and by extension, get lost in.
