Hailing from Malaysia, 25-year-old Julia Duclos is a rising star who is well on her way to becoming a household name. Growing up in a music-loving family, listening to ABBA and Michael Jackson, it’s no surprise that she has an eclectic taste in music. She enjoys a variety of sounds ranging from indie and pop to electronic and R&B.
She first appeared on the local music scene gaining clout with her ethereal covers and performing at open mic nights. In 2018, she released her debut single “Further”.
At first glance, you may think she’s just another pop artist, but listen closer and you will find that her soulful, meaningful, and heartfelt lyrics paired with a future-facing, almost playful sound makes her a very relatable artist with incredible depth.
It’s nearly impossible to put Julia Duclos in any genre category as she’s very versatile with her sound. The young songstress isn’t afraid to use her voice for the things that she is so passionate about. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Kimbra, Dua Lipa, and Jaira Burns, Julia spreads a message of positivity in a world that loves focusing on the negatives.
Since her debut, she has opened for international acts such as Bazzi and Jake Bugg.
The singer-songwriter teamed up with production duo SeaTravel to rework her hit single ‘Running’.
The remix, that’s been in the works since December 2019, was a fun way to push the original song and take it to the next level.
“The essence of the original song is there, but now it’s more impactful,” said the 25-year-old songstress.
The idea for a remix came about after Julia heard fellow Sony artist Nyk's remix with SeaTravel. She toyed with the idea of working on her already successful single to see where she could take it to.
“It’s more of a dance number now; easier to vibe to and it’s optimised for festivals or clubs but still remains radio-friendly,” she said.
The fun and lighthearted song now has a heavier EDM sound thanks to SeaTravel’s creative genius.
“The meaning of the song hasn’t changed for me but it’s not exactly straightforward can be interpreted in a lot of ways,” said Julia
“I wanted to let the listeners make up their own stories as they listened to it,” she added.
