Petite Malaysian hip hop princess who is on the rise with an enormous talent, Wan Nur Khaleda Aziz or famously known as Kayda, 28, returns with a brand new music video ‘Macam-macam’. Released a few weeks earlier, this single was composed and produced by Lucka Sickta in a joint collaboration with Kayda herself. ‘Macam-macam’ is the first Malay, Chinese and English solo rap single by the singer.
What started as a hobby while she was 13, listening to the likes of Missy Elliott, Ak’Sent and TLC with her cousins and just enjoying the rhythmic beat of hip hop, she decided to become a full-fledged rap singer at the age of 21 and venturing into the Malaysian music scene was definitely not an easy path.
“Ever since I was small I have been exposed to various genres of music and I am always drawn to R&B and hip hop because I enjoy listening to them.
‘Macam-macam’ is a self-expression of emancipation on becoming the woman that I am today. I would like to encourage women out there to be more confident and strong while facing backlashes from haters. Apart from encouraging women to be more independent, women should feel empowered and should never fall victim to the sweet words of a player and should be able to stand on her own. As a woman of today we should openly talk about our insecurities and personal issues while still striving to pursue our dreams and goals in life.”
She explains more on the making of ‘Macam-macam’ music video,
“It did not take us an entire day to shoot the music video as my management team and production crew already knew what are the shots needed to make it happen.
Apart from rapping in Malay, I have a few lines in Mandarin and I would like to infuse an element of Oriental-ness through the majestic Chinese interior of Federal Hotel which provided the venue for our music video. I potrayed myself as an empress to symbolise power in which every woman should feel that they are queens in their own rights while deeply rooted in our Eastern values.
I hope many people are able to relate to my single and music video, but most importantly I want hip hop fans especially to enjoy listening and vibe to it.”
