Ian Koren is Reckless Escapades, a hip-hop artist / producer from Kuala Lumpur. Ian’s love for music started young, he picked up the guitar at 13 years old and quickly started writing original songs as soon as he learned a few chords.
In high school, Ian formed the emo pop punk band Throne Away. Under Ian’s leadership, Throne Away released two critically acclaimed albums, performed high profile gigs like Rock the World 7, made appearances on TV/radio and was featured in national newspapers/magazines.
In 2008, Ian moved to America at the age of 21 to study at Berklee College Of Music in Boston. During his time in Boston, Ian began to make music as a solo artist under his own name. Ian graduated from Berklee in 2011 with a BM in Music Production And Engineering. Shortly after his graduation, Ian moved to New York for a year where he would perform often in small coffeeshops and bars such as Otto’s Shrunken Head in the East Village, Freddy’s Bar in Brooklyn, Desmond’s Tavern in Midtown and many more.
Reckless Escapades was born in 2015, with the creation of a SoundCloud page and with an upload of the song “A Roaming Beggar”. The next couple years were quiet for Reckless Escapades as he only released a handful on demos on SoundCloud but things would soon change.
In November of 2018, the single “Down on My Luck” was featured on a popular music platform’s editorial playlists Beats & Rhymes and New Music Friday Malaysia. The success of “Down on My Luck” (over 95,000 streams) encouraged Ian to release new music often, sometimes dropping two new singles in a month.
In March 2019, Reckless Escapades and his wife Maruxa Lynd achieved a new milestone, with their song “Say A Prayer” receiving radio airplay on HITZ, eventually reaching the top spot on the MET10 chart.
Fast forward to a year later in April 2020, Reckless has just released the pop-R&B anthem “Fast Luv”, accompanied with its own dance known as the #FastLuvChallenge on Tik Tok and Instagram.
It was a priority for Reckless Escapades to focus on putting out music that is positive and fun to lift people’s spirits up during these uncertain times while the world deals with the Covid-19 pandemic.
The rest of 2020 will be filled with plenty more new Reckless Escapades music both solo and in collaboration with other artists that Ian loves.
