With a voice that’s ethereal and gently beguiling -- that’s how LUNADIRA captivates you. Her melodious delivery delicately delivers pained confessions on matters of the heart to hundreds who come to see her perform on stage.

Growing up as a child of the MTV generation, Britney Spears, Usher and Ne-Yo danced their way into Luna’s musical awareness. It was only when she began to discern the songwriting of Lorde and a fledgling Maroon 5 that she noticed how a voice and song structure could be manipulated to break away from pop formula.

Adopting what she learnt by ear to hone her own craft, each practise prepared her to create a catchy earworm of her own, and subsequently ebbed her away from the cathartic free form of her old stock of ballads.

Together with her main collaborator Harith Jamil on production duty, her foray into R&B was established with her percussive rendition of Zayn Malik’s “PILLOWTALK” as well as self-penned singles such as “Forever’s Not Our Thing” and one from her forthcoming EP, “Stuck With You, that was also mixed by formidable pop artiste Kuizz. It’s a sultry, languid ode to the muddy circumstances of being involved in “situationships”, the lyrics of which were spun from stories by friends rather than the pages of her diary.

The self-taught singer-songwriter began building towards her career in music just like many others of a similar ilk as her: covering pop songs and releasing them to a modest community of listeners. But what distinguished Luna from the rest though, was her penchant for parodying pop hits with an impish wink, like her version of Foster the People’s ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ that she exaggerated with a British accent. So don’t let her steely appearance fool you, Luna is a chanteuse with a playful humour.

While a lot of folks are still stuck on her last single, Lunadira decided to

surprise her fans with her first offering of 2019, “ur cute but boring”.

On “ur cute but boring” (UCBB for short), the rising singer-songwriter isn’t afraid to hurt the male ego, making a solid case for why physical beauty is futile without the personality to match it. Delivering her signature low, sultry vocals over Anuar Roslan’s groove-driven production, Lunadira’s latest track is a

strong contender for bop of the year and signals a possible sonic shift for the 24-year-old artist.
