Best known as the former frontman of Malaysian band Paperplane Pursuit, John O recently released his second single ‘Fake Romances’ on 5th November 2021.

The song blends the sound of old school soul and modern pop hooks, with a touch of R&B, funk and rock. The lyrics combine heartfelt confessions and witty turns of phrases.

“Fake Romances precedes the story that unfolds in Motown Love”, says John O.The song talks about looking back on the past, and the choice to forgo fleeting relationships in favour of lasting love. It’s easy to question if we’ve truly found ‘the one’, and all too often we find our hearts at war with our minds. Doubts gradually give way to an optimistic resolve, and an invitation to take a leap of faith and discover what the future holds.”

With John O writing and producing all his music, ‘Fake Romances’ marks the second of 12 singles to be released over the course of one year. He brings to the project a decade of experience as an award-winning songwriter, producer, and performer. He is also the only Malaysian to have written, arranged, produced, and performed a song that made it to the US Billboard Charts.

Paperplane Pursuit retired in 2019 after ten years of performing and releasing music. John O then took a break from public life in 2020, when he was approached to be the A&R Manager and resident songwriter / producer for RedRecords, a joint venture between AirAsia and Universal Music Group. During his year-long tenure at the label, he wrote and produced the label’s first release, ‘Passcode’, alongside Tommy Brown (Ariana Grande, BlackPink), Mike Dean (Kanye West, Travis Scott) and Jessie Reyez (Calvin Harris, Tory Lanez). In 2021, John O made the decision to pursue a career as a solo artist, and set out to craft his sound as a songwriter and producer.
