1. Ola-Bola (2016)

Set in the 1980s, Ola-Bola is an uplifting movie about a team of footballers whose disagreements leave them with a streak of embarrassing losses. The team only has one chance left for international glory and they have to overcome their individual odds and unite for the sake of an entire country.

2. The Journey (2014)

The Journey follows the story of a father that finally allows his daughter to marry an English man under one condition—he must follow his future father-in-law on a journey around the country to deliver the wedding invitations.

3. Puteri Gunung Ledang (2004)

Based on the legend of Puteri Gunung Ledang, the film tells the tale of a forbidden romance that blossoms between Gusti Putri, a Javanese-Hindu princess, and Hang Tuah, a warrior from Malacca.

4. Bukit Kepong (1981)

Based on a true story, Bukit Kepong shows the hard-fought battle between the police force and the locals against the communists in 1950. The battle reaches its climax at the Bukit Kepong police station, where the members were attacked by 180 violent communists.

5. Sepet (2004)

Sepet follows the tale of two young lovers from different cultural and religious backgrounds who must cope with their families’ disagreements, as well as social pressure.
