Ever since Spider-Man was officially taken out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe by Sony, fans have been wondering about what’s next for the web-swinger.

What happens after Mysterio’s big reveal at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home? Could Spider-Man’s future involve Sony’s Venom? Many fans seem to think so.

However, it’s not Spider-Man’s future that we’re concerned about here. It’s his past, or at least Peter Parker’s past.

According to sources, Peter’s past did involve the symbiote as it was reported that a Peter Parker/Spider-Man cameo was removed from Venom.

When Tom Hardy’s Venom first premiered in October 2018, fans were excited about the independent project that wasn’t tied to the MCU narrative.

Months leading up to the release of the movie, rumours were flying around that Tom Holland had filmed a cameo as Peter Parker in the movie. But as we know, the finished project did not have a single mention of Spider-Man.

According to comedian Jay Washington - who was informed by sources, Marvel played a big role in ensuring that the cameo did not happen.

On a recent episode of Collider Live, Jay noted that Tom did in fact shoot a cameo scene for Venom but Marvel made Sony remove it from the movie.

“I’ll tell you the truth, Tom Holland did film a scene for Venom, I found this out,” he said. “Marvel saw the movie and was like ‘Take him out. Take the scene out.’ So, Peter Parker was in Venom. Not Spider-Man, Peter Parker.”

So it seems like Sony always intended to have a Spider-Man-Venom crossover. However, it looks like Marvel wasn’t too keen to see Peter and Eddie meet in that universe.

While Tom Holland’s cameo wouldn’t have made that much of impact on Venom’s plot, it definitely would have had significant implications on the whole franchise.

Now that the Sony/Marvel deal has reached an unhappy ending for both parties, this means that Sony has the freedom to do whatever they’d like with both Spider-Man and Venom without worrying about Marvel’s input.

Although a Peter Parker cameo would have been awesome to see in Venom, we’re looking forward to seeing what Sony plans to do now that there are no limitations to their creativity.

Would you have loved to see Peter Parker in Venom? Do you think it was right for Marvel to cut out that scene? Let us know your thoughts!
