First released in 2003, the Knights of the Old Republic aka KOTOR is a role-playing game that focuses on the never-ending battle between the Jedi and the Sith that’s set almost 4,000 years before Star Wars: A New Hope.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the movie version of the video game and it looks like they won’t have to wait much longer!

The upcoming movie is currently being written by Avatar and Shutter Island’s Laeta Kalogridis for Lucasfilm. Reportedly, Laeta is close to finishing the first script of what could possibly be a KOTOR trilogy.
During the recent Star Wars Celebration back in April, Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy spoke to MTV News about KOTOR and said, “Yes, we are developing something to look at. Right now, I have no idea where things might fall.”

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the game, we’ve got you.
In KOTOR, the player is tasked to help fight in an uprising against the Republic that’s led by the villainous Sith Lord, Darth Malak. In their journey, the player will eventually join forces with a Jedi Knight named Bastila Shan who is one of the most revered female characters in the Star Wars extended universe.
Not forgetting, the game’s story also has more Wookies, droids, the Jedi Academy and the Force; so that leaves ample space for the creators of the upcoming movie to play with.
The movie does not have a release date as of yet, but we’ll keep you update! Are you excited for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?
