When the professor is made aware that Grindelwald has escaped, he knows that there is little time to waste. For those who know, Dumbledore is the only wizard that Lord Voldemort (from Harry Potter) has always been afraid of. Unfortunately, for reasons he alone knows - a young Dumbledore is unable to move against Grindelwald himself. Therefore, he must rely on Newt instead.
