According to Variety, the final episode of the Infinity Saga hit theaters all around the world over the last weekend and “demolished box office records with a stunning $350 million (RM1.4 billion) in North America and $1.2 billion (RM4.95 billion) worldwide.”

Endgame is the eight movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to have cross the billion-dollar mark and the movie also became the fastest ever movie to earn that much in its opening weekend.

Previously, Avengers: Infinity War held the record for biggest worldwide opening weekend with $640 million (RM2.6 billion). Endgame has dusted that record away by a jaw-dropping $560 million (RM2.3 billion).

Endgame represents the culmination of a decade long commitment of Marvel to the audience and the fans devotion to the beloved characters of the MCU,” said senior media analyst at Comscore, Paul Dergarabedian.

“This massive and historic debut shows that by delivering consistently great movies coupled with characters inhabited by perhaps the most perfectly cast group of actors in cinematic history, Marvel has literally rewritten the rule book and in the process has made box office history,” he continued.

After the massively successful opening weekend of Endgame, directors Anthony and Joe Russ took to Twitter to thank the Marvel fans for their continuous love and support over the past 11 years.

The brothers shared a tweet saying, “We want to thank everyone who’s been on this journey with us. We grew up in a big, loving family where stories were told at the dinner table to entertain each other. We now get to tell those stories to the world. All because of you… With much love and respect… The RB’s.”

After 11 years and 22 movies that began with Iron Man in 2008, this history-making achievement is most definitely well deserved by the cast and crew. Are you surprised that Avengers: Endgame broke the box office?
