DC fans, a lot has been happening over the past couple of days, but in case you haven’t heard, Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton are set to return as Batman once again!

Vanity Fair reported that Ben Affleck has agreed to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Flash movie, which Ezra Miller stars as the titular superhero.

The movie, which is planned for release in 2022, is an adaptation of DC’s 2011 Flashpoint series of comic book crossovers and will see the fast-moving hyper-hero Barry Allen, breaking the bonds of physics to crash into various parallel dimensions where he’ll meet slightly different versions of classic DC superheroes.

Though fans have long debated the actor’s portrayal as Batfleck, the news comes with much surprise especially since the actor stated that he was done playing the Dark Knight back in February 2019.

Director Andy Muschietti recently confirmed the news of Ben’s return to Vanity Fair saying:

“His Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong, which is his masculinity – because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline – but he’s also very vulnerable. He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance.”

“He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before,” the director continued. “It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”

According to the director, Ben’s Batman will be the “baseline’ for Ezra’s Flash.

“He’s part of that unaltered state before we jump into Barry’s adventure,” the director said. “There’s a familiarity there.”

Ben is not the only one who will be making a comeback as Batman in The Flash.

Michael Keaton from the 1989 Batman, will also return to the upcoming movie and is set to appear in what the director says is a “substantial” part.

Previously, rumours went around that the actor would be returning as the caped crusader but now, those rumours have been confirmed in the recent DC FanDome event.

The first look at the highly anticipated Flash movie was revealed during the event and the official concept art shows Ezra’s Flash and Michael’s Batman teaming up to face off the forces of evil.

Fans (and us) are super excited to see how both Batmans will appear in the upcoming movie, especially as the Flashpoint storyline in the comics explores parallel worlds, different timelines and the multiverse.

This movie is a bit of a hinge in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that we’ve seen before are valid,” the director shared. “It’s inclusive in the sense that it is saying all that you’ve seen exists, and everything that you will see exists, in the same unified multiverse.”

We can’t wait to see the DC universe come together!

What do you think will take place in the Flash movie? How do you think they’ll introduce both Batmans in the movie? Share your thoughts with us!
